ANSWER:
Cabinet refacing is the replacement of your cabinet doors and the drawer fronts in wood or laminate products. The cabinet boxes are then layered-over with a stick-on wood veneer or laminate to match the doors and drawers.You may completely change the style of your
doors and drawer fronts. Some additions or structural and hardware changes may be made.
DISADVANTAGE OF REFINISHING: Cabinet style and configuration remain the same
ANSWER:
Cabinet refinishing is the removing of the color and topcoat clear finish of the cabinets and replacing with new color and finish of your choice. Other processes such as refacing are often called refinishing. Those are not refinishing.
ADVANTAGE OF REFINISHING:
Better quality finish at major cost savings over other options. Repair any surface defects. Replace hardware and adjust operations. Make minor structural changes
Refinishing has low time-disruption of kitchen. Refinishing saves wood and trees.
DISADVANTAGE OF REFACING:
Very costly. Replacement quality may not be as good as your existing. Parts come from worldwide,unpredictable in grade. The refacing process may take many days in your kitchen to complete.
ANSWER:
This means, of course, the complete replacement of all the cabinets, boxes (part mounted on the walls) doors & drawer fronts and countertops.
ADVANTAGE:
You can change the layout of cabinets with an unlimited selection of styles, colors and feature combinations.
DISADVANTAGE OF REPLACING:
You may not get your expected quality. Good grade cabinets are quite expensive. Your kitchen may be unusable for a considerable time.
ANSWER:
These terms are sometimes used in-place of "refinishing," as these processes have similarities to refinishing. The difference is that all of existing finish/color may not be removed as in refinishing. Rather, finish color / damage is repaired, or color toning improvements are made and final new clear-coats applied. The cabinets can look like new. Recoating is applying new topcoat over existing finish.
The term "resurfacing" is a wider description and may be used for ANY type of surface improvement.
ADVANTAGES:
Great cost savings over refacing or replacing cabinets. And you can have corrections made to any problems, add new hardware. Looks Grrreat.
DISADVANTAGES: Basic kitchen configuration and layout remains.
ANSWER:
Touch-up refers to matching the color and sheen of a small area of defect to the surrounding surface.
ADVANTAGE:
Low cost improvement. Can solve minor appearance issues.
DISADVANTAGE:
Very limited in scope of improvement and may not be "perfect"
